Speech language pathologist

Main function

The Speech Language Pathologist plans and provides individualized treatment programs for patients across inpatient, outpatient, ALC, and Skilled Nursing settings. This role collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary care team and reports to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehabilitative Services.

  • What you'll do
  • Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans based on physician prescriptions.
  • Document evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and required reports.
  • Communicate regularly with physicians regarding patient progress.
  • Work with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
  • Educate and guide patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Maintain equipment and assist with developing new speech therapy services.
  • Provide mentorship and direction to support staff involved in patient care.
  • Participate in in‑service education, committees, and professional development.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and exceptional customer service.
  • Provide age‑appropriate care to all patient populations.
  • Attend mandatory annual training and comply with all departmental policies.
  • Education & requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Speech Language Pathology program.
  • Eligible for NYS license and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience
  • 1-2 years of hospital experience preferred.
  • Physical demands
  • Frequent standing; intermittent lifting, positioning, or transferring patients or equipment.
