The Assistant Educator for La Jornada will provide assistance to the teaching staff. Provide feedback to the Lead Educator about the progress of the children and discuss important issues pertaining to the children on a regular basis. RESPONSIBILITIES The Assistant Educator for

  • Jornada will perform duties including, but not limited to: Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies. Assist in developing lesson plans based on state requirements and the specific needs of each child. Collaborate with educator to monitor the academic progress of each child. Collaborate with educator to deliver daily lesson plans, as well as understand how the classroom is run in the event that the teacher is absent on a particular day. Work with individual children in the classroom to promote their learning and development. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Associate degree in education and/or early childhood education. Valid ECE certification preferred. 2+ years’ experience as a Teacher Assistant or Paraprofessional, working with minority children in a classroom environment. Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets, printers, fax machines, and photocopiers, as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs. Bilingual (English Spanish). Fluency in Spanish is required. Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/300,000 bodily liability coverage. 21 years of age, valid state driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and a good driving record. OTHER SKILLS Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Compassionate attitude and strong understanding of child development. Nurturing teaching approach. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity. Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands. Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying. Ability to travel frequently and drive vehicle while sitting for extended periods, with frequency varying based on program demands. Requirements

Candidates must have an associate degree in education and at least 2 years of experience as a Teacher Assistant or Paraprofessional. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required, along with a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
