Job Description

Position Summary

The Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher (Grades 5–8) is responsible for teaching reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literature. The teacher helps students develop critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills while fostering a love of reading and effective writing. Key Responsibilities Plan and implement ELA lessons aligned with state and district standards for grades 5–8. Teach reading comprehension, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and literature analysis. Encourage students to think critically, express ideas clearly, and engage in meaningful discussions. Assess student learning through quizzes, essays, projects, presentations, and class participation. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with special needs and English language learners. Promote literacy through reading programs, literature circles, and writing workshops. Maintain a structured, supportive, and engaging classroom environment. Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and parents/guardians. Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development and interdisciplinary learning. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events. Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, Literacy, or a related field. Valid teaching certification/licensure appropriate for grades 5–8 (as required by the state or school). Knowledge of middle school ELA curriculum and instructional best practices. Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to make reading and writing engaging and meaningful for students.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience teaching upper elementary or middle school ELA. Familiarity with digital tools and technology to enhance reading and writing instruction. Experience implementing differentiated instruction and supporting diverse learners. Ability to foster a love of literacy and encourage student creativity and expression. Qualifications Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, Literacy, or a related field. Valid teaching certification/licensure appropriate for grades 5–8 (as required by the state or school). Knowledge of middle school ELA curriculum and instructional best practices.
