Position summary

A Gymnastics Team Coach provides high quality gymnastics training in a competitive setting that fosters and encourages teamwork and a passion for the sport of gymnastics.
Essential functions
- 1.
- Provide instruction and guidance through coaching youth and team gymnastics.
- 2.
- Ensure age and developmentally appropriate coaching is carried out and modified based on individual needs.
- 3.
- Support the growth of team programming through collaboration with recreational gymnastics instructors.
- 4.
- Conduct evaluations necessary to determine proper placement of kids who wish to join the team program.
- 5.
- Teach youth and teen recreational classes to bridge the gap between program and team participation as needed.
- 6.
- Assist in training and orienting new coaches to the team.
- 7.
- Cultivate long lasting relationships with members, program participants, and families.
- 8.
- Create a safe environment for everyone in the gymnastics center and support the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
- Respond to emergencies implementing YMCA emergency protocols.
- 9.
- Communicates effectively and is responsive to participants and parents/guardians.
- 10.
- All other duties as directed or required for the overall success of the organization.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience coaching Xcel Bronze & Silver and/or JO Levels 3 - 5 preferred
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a competition setting preferred
- General knowledge of Xcel or JO Compulsory Code of Points
- SafeSport Certified, Concussion in Sport Certified (or completed within 15 days of hire)
- 18 + years of age
- Must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications and all other training required by the YMCA ● Must demonstrate the ability to perform correctly the skills appropriate to the levels being taught ● USA Gymnastics Safety & Risk Management Certified
Work environment and physical demands
- Must be physically and mentally capable to maintain the skills of required certifications. ● Must be able to demonstrate skills taught in gymnastics classes
- Must be able to see and hear an emergency
- Ability to lift equipment and maneuver equipment and weight up to 55 lbs or that of a small to average size child.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to navigate the uneven surfaces on the gym floor
- Physically and mentally acts appropriately and immediately to unexpected circumstances
