Position Overview The Lifeguard for Summer @ The Brook is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff during aquatic activities. This role requires constant vigilance, enforcement of safety protocols, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Lifeguards are essential members of the aquatics team and contribute to a safe, positive, and well-managed pool environment.

  • Reports to: Head Lifeguard / Aquatics Director Key Responsibilities Aquatic Supervision & Safety Monitor swimmers at all times during recreational swim periods and scheduled activities. ● Enforce all pool rules and safety procedures consistently and professionally. ● Assist with swim tests and help monitor camper ability levels. Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and surrounding environment. Emergency Preparedness & Response Respond immediately and appropriately to aquatic emergencies. Implement Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) as trained. Provide first aid, CPR, and other lifesaving measures when necessary. Operations & Support Assist with daily pool operations, including setup and cleanup of equipment. ● Support Head Lifeguard with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe pool environment. ● Help maintain basic logs and report incidents as required. Team Collaboration Work closely with Head Lifeguard and aquatics staff to ensure proper coverage and smooth operations. Participate in in-service trainings, drills, and team meetings. Communicate effectively with staff and campers to promote a safe and positive experience. Required Qualifications Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or equivalent). CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Pool Activity Leader (PAL) Certification (may be required based on role and responsibilities). Previous lifeguarding or camp experience preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and situational awareness. Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods. Ability to respond calmly and effectively under pressure. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment. Physical Requirements Ability to remain on pool deck for extended periods.
