Job Description

The English Teacher is responsible for delivering Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s (MVRCS) English curriculum to students in Grades 7–12. Instruction is grounded in the Core Knowledge and Great Books programs, both in content and methodology. At the high school level, the program includes the rigorous and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, and teaching assignments may include IB coursework.

Responsibilities

Implement the established English curriculum, including the Great Books program and, where applicable, IB coursework Teach five English classes daily, each meeting on a consistent schedule Deliver instruction using Core Knowledge and IB methodologies Design and execute lessons with clear, standards-aligned learning objectives Regularly assess student progress and provide timely feedback, including progress reports and report cards Administer standardized assessments as directed by the English Department Chair and school leadership Collaborate regularly with English department colleagues and the Department Chair on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data analysis Maintain a structured classroom environment by implementing the school’s assertive discipline model with fidelity Attend all staff meetings and actively participate in professional development opportunities Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned by the English Department Chair and school leadership Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in English or a related field Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to write clear, concise reports and professional correspondence Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate data and make informed decisions Ability to identify problems, gather relevant information, and draw sound conclusions Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader community Working knowledge of curriculum standards, educational law, and school policies Experience assessing student performance and writing evaluative reports Strong collaboration, instructional, and classroom leadership skills Excellent organizational and time management abilities in a fast-paced environment A proactive, solution-oriented approach to supporting student success Ability to differentiate instruction based on student needs and abilities

Position Details

This position reports to the English Department Chair and is evaluated annually. Employment is offered on an annual appointment basis.
