Job description

  • Sarasota Sharks SwimAmerica™ Swim School Part-time Position Description Swim School Instructor Our Sarasota Sharks SwimAmerica™ Swim School Instructor and Coaches eagerly and enthusiastically conduct group and private swim lessons in a safe and fun teaching environment.
  • We teach swimmers of all ages and abilities appropriate skills according to the Sarasota Sharks SwimAmerica™ Swim School curriculum, culture and philosophy.
  • This part-time position has a variable schedule and reports to the Sarasota Sharks Site Supervisor.
  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Conduct group and private swim lessons in a safe, supportive, positive and motivating learning environment.
  • Instruct and teach students of all ages and abilities with appropriate skills according to the Sarasota Sharks SwimAmerica™ Swim School curriculum, culture and philosophy.
  • Attend instructional swim staff meetings and training as required and directed.
  • Maintain regular open communication with the Site Supervisor regarding issues related to the program.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and set up and clean-up of lesson equipment and changeover of pool configuration.
  • Respond to emergencies, injuries, and illnesses as they arise.
  • Other duties assigned by Site Supervisor.
  • QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS Must complete and pass the ASCA SwimAmerica™ Online Coaches Course within 30 days of hire (paid for by Sarasota Sharks SwimAmerica™ Swim School).
  • Must have current CPR/AED and first-aid certifications, or ability to acquire within 30 days of hire.
  • Lifeguard certification is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and adhere to uniform policy.
  • Experience working with children is preferred.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older (15 years with lifeguard certification).
  • Previous swimming or instructional experience is highly preferred.
  • Must have a strong interest and passion for teaching children and be in the water for a 3-4 hour shift.
  • Must have transportation and be punctual and reliable.
