Job description
- The Teacher Assistant (TIS) is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in supervising children to ensure their safety and well-being; providing instruction and facilitation to groups and individual children under the direction of the Teacher; and collaborating with the Teacher to assess the strengths and needs of children and design appropriate classroom activities.

- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist teacher in any way possible, which may include, but is not necessarily limited to: a.
- Plan activities for assigned groups or individual children. b.
- Implement the daily schedule as assigned. c.
- Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children's artwork, and other hangings. d.
- Serve breakfast, lunches, and snacks. e.
- Help with materials and room clean-up and organization.
- Provide nurturing and supportive environment for children, using positive behavior interventions and preventative strategies to manage classroom behavior.
- Complete required number of training hours each year by attending in-house in-services and local workshops and trainings.
- Assume temporary responsibilities of the teacher in her/his absence.
- Report any special needs or problems of individual children to the classroom teacher.
- Work with children who have special health care needs, supporting the teacher Report any cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Director or make a direct call to DCYF(1-800-RICHILD).
- Assistants must be able to follow 4 month rotating work schedule of 8.5 hours within the times the center is open (7:00 am – 5:30 pm).
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency required. Some college credit in the fields of early childhood, special education, or psychology preferred. At least 1-year supervised experience working with children with special needs, including social/emotional disorders and/or developmental disabilities.in a typical childcare program.
