Principle objective
To deliver high-quality tennis instruction that promotes skill development, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of the game. The Summer League Tennis Coach creates a positive and inclusive environment for players of all ages and abilities, supports the overall growth of the tennis program, and contributes to the mission of building community through active, healthy, and meaningful connections.
Principle working relationship
This role collaborates with the Tennis Manager/Head Pro and works closely to ensure a consistent and positive member experience. This role interacts with members and class participants, providing guidance, motivation, and support in a welcoming and professional manner. The role collaborates with staff and facility management to maintain a safe, clean, and engaging tennis environment that reflects the organization’s mission and values.
- Summary of key responsibilities
- Lead engaging tennis league classes with proper warm-up, skill development, and match play.
- Teach effective techniques, strategy, and footwork to players of all ages and levels.
- Provide individualized feedback to support player growth and performance.
- Prepare courts, equipment, and materials for each session.
- Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
- Communicate with the Fitness & Tennis Director and Tennis Manager regarding player progress and program needs.
- Profile skills and core competencies
- Enthusiastic and skilled tennis professional dedicated to fostering player growth, confidence, and enjoyment of the game.
- Strong understanding of tennis fundamentals, biomechanics, and modern coaching methods.
- Excellent communication and motivational skills with the ability to engage players of all ages and abilities.
- Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude on and off the court.
- Team-oriented and collaborative, working closely with coaches and staff to support program success.
- Passionate about community, sportsmanship, and promoting lifelong participation in tennis.
- Experience/Education
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a tennis instructor, coach, or assistant coach preferred.
- Current tennis coaching certification(s) preferred (e.g., USPTA, or equivalent), depending on the level and type of instruction being offered.
- Physical requirements
- Must be a minimum of 16 years or older.
- Must be able to lift up to 30+ pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, with necessary weather protection (i.e. sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.).
- DOJ background clearance required
- Must adhere to and model PCC’s Safe Church policies
- Position requires physical ability to demonstrate exercises and technique, and remain active for extended periods during classes.
- Ability to walk throughout PCC’s 16-acre campus, including stairs.
- Workweek
- Part-time position, 3.5 - 16 hours per week.
