Job description

Description The group exercise instructor leads fitness classes or programs in their specific area of expertise (i.e. Cycling, Yoga, Zumba, Strength, Cardio, etc.) Primary responsibility is to plan, organize and safely lead participants through class and program activities appropriate to the fitness level of the participants in the class. Must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization and must be willing to stay current with trends and certifications all while sharing a passion for fitness with team members and participants.

Requirements

Qualifications

– Must be 18 years or older. – High school diploma (or GED equivalent) required. – Nationally recognized Group Exercise Certification such as YMCA of the USA, ACE, AFAA, ACSM or NETA. – Current CPR certification. – Experience and/or knowledge in leading group exercise classes is preferred but not required. – Ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals with varying abilities. – Last but not least, a passion for health and fitness!

Responsibilities

  • – Develop routines/classes with appropriate music, exercises and choreography. – Provide safe and effective workouts for everyone including modifications. – Interact with participants before/after class and encourage participation in other group exercise classes.
  • Be responsible for all scheduled classes and, if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures. – Be willing to continue in-house training in order to improve teaching skills or expand current skill level. – Attend instructor meetings.
