The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is responsible for the direct implementation of behavior support plans, skill-acquisition programming, and other behavioral interventions for consumers served by Rivendale and the ABA Services program. The RBT will collect observational, A-B-C, and daily data under the direct supervision of one or more Board Certified Behavior Analyst(s) (BCBA) and in collaboration with the RBT Supervisor (if not a BCBA but approved by the BACB) applicable Director(s). The RBT will assist with intervention and implementation of therapeutic programming and assessments, such as functional analyses and/or functional behavior assessments. In addition, the RBT will model interventions outlined within behavior support plans, and provide feedback to other implementers/caregivers/parents under the supervision of the BCBA, RBT Supervisor, or applicable Director. The RBT is responsible for maintaining accurate data collection for consumers, including documentation of skills, and for retaining precise records for billing purposes. The implementation of programming with consumers occurs in a variety of settings such as site based, community, or in-home. The RBT is a paraprofessional, non-exempt, hourly position. A Registered Behavior Technician employee is both a mentor and a coach. In this position you will be working hands on with our clients to provide guidance and suggestions to empower their learning.
  • You will do this by: Assists staff and families by helping with program instruction and working with staff and consumers during instructional activities. Collects and measures data required by treatment plans, IEPs, BSPs, and/or other programs developed by the BCBA(s) and/or at the request of the applicable Director(s). Assists and participates in functional analyses, functional behavior assessments and other assessments as requested by the BCBA(s) and/or applicable Director(s). Participates in treatment planning and meetings with the consumer’s support team. Provides crisis intervention, as needed to maintain safety, within the scope of current crisis management system certifications. Completes required paperwork and required reports in a timely manner, including billing documentation and monitoring one’s timecard. Uses task analyses, backward chaining, and/or forward chaining procedures to teach consumer’s daily self-help skills. Provides modeling and feedback to caregivers regarding behavior support plan implementation in natural environments. Participates in regular supervision meetings with the

The RBT will work with the Rivendale team as well as the ABA Services team. Both teams support individuals with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as psychiatric/behavioral diagnoses. The Rivendale team provides support in an educational environment. Individuals served by both programs may exhibit impulsive behaviors, poor decision-making, and verbal/physical aggression. The RBT will use behavioral observation and assessment, and crisis intervention and prevention skills on a daily basis. The RBT must be able to provide support to consumers by following positive behavior support plans and interventions. The RBT must be able to remain calm and provide verbal coaching and modeling for other staff/caregivers in crisis situations. Is an active participant during meetings with the treatment team to discuss the consumer’s progress and to determine priorities for the consumer related to the treatment plan, IEP, behavior support plan, or other programs developed by the BCBA(s), applicable Director(s) and treatment team. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion. Ability to work with and respect persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ability to work varied and flexible hours and flexible days and to accept and adapt to changes in assignments, methods, and policies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, co-workers, families, and stakeholders. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Ability to demonstrate competency with MS Office and data collection software programs. Ability to demonstrate and retain knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis principles, positive behavior support principles and practices, and behavior management techniques as they apply to programming for those with developmental disabilities. Ability to comply with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s (BACB) ethical principles regarding professional conduct and scope of practice. Obtains ongoing supervision from BCBA(s) for a minimum of 5% of the hours spent directly engaged in consumer skill acquisition activities and behavior change strategies per month. Maintains RBT credential in good standing with the BACB. Ability to stand, stoop, push and pull items, and lift 50 pounds. Performs other duties as assigned. Successfully completes a course on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations for Health and Safety. Class E driver’s license with an “S” supplement from the State of Missouri.
