Job Summary
Pattison’s Academy Charter School currently has openings for a special education teacher for the 2026-2027 school year in a behavior support/autism classroom. The special education teacher is pivotal in supporting the mission of Pattison’s Academy. Reporting to the Principal, this position works closely with other educators, parents, and support staff to create a comprehensive learning environment for children with multiple disabilities in grades K – 12+. Our interdisciplinary model provides seamless education, medical, and therapy services in the classroom environment, so our children have every opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Master’s in Special Education
SC State Board of Education Certification in Special Education – Intellectual Disabilities, Severe Disabilities, or Multi-Categorical.
Experience working with children with multiple disabilities preferred
Responsibilities
The Special Education Teacher’s duties, though not exhaustive, comprise the following:
Create, develop, and implement lesson plans aligned with Pattison’s curriculum and standards with an emphasis on a functional academic curriculum and community-based instruction.
Deliver specialized instruction based on students' IEPs and curriculum standards. Adapt teaching methods, materials, and assessments to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities. Provide one-on-one support, small group instruction, and whole-class instruction as needed.
Collaborate with parents, school administrators, and other professionals to assess students' needs and develop personalized IEPs. Design instructional strategies, accommodations, and goals to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development
Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists, and other team members
Supervise and support teaching assistants and classroom staff
Knowledge of behavior management strategies
Experience with AAC devices, visual schedules, and sensory supports
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, participation, and success. Implement positive behavioral management strategies, establish clear expectations, and foster a supportive learning community.
Manage classroom resources, materials, and technology effectively.
Implement data tracking to monitor student progress, identify areas of growth, and make data-informed instructional decisions.
Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and IEP goals.
Administer mandated state assessments, appropriate curriculum-based assessments, and Student Learning Objectives (SLOs)in keeping with department of education best practice standards and compliance.
Assists in basic medical and health routines for students as directed and trained by nursing staff.
Provide personal care assistance to students including assisting with personal hygiene needs such as oral feeding, tube feeding, and toileting.
Ensures compliance with all safety requirements.
Stay current with best practices, research-based interventions, and legal requirements related to special education.
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, workshops, and trainings to enhance teaching skills, knowledge, and effectiveness.
Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
