Support the implementation of high-quality programming for both Early Childhood and Elementary After-School programs. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson plans, managing classroom organization, and building positive relationships with students and families.

Together with the managers of the ECE and Elementary After-School programs and the classroom teacher, the shared position of Support Teacher is responsible for supporting the implementation of high-quality, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate programming for both the morning Early Childhood program (approx. 27 hours/week) and the afternoon Elementary School-Aged After-School Program (approx.13 hours/week). Curriculum support Assist in the implementation of lesson plans and instructional activities by utilizing the Grace Place established curriculum and resources, such as Creative Curriculum. Support the instructional methods of the class to promote math and reading growth including whole group instruction, center-based learning activities, homework support, and small group instruction.
Classroom support Aid in maintenance of classroom organization by completing tasks such as, but not limited to the following: classroom set up and clean up, managing classroom supplies and materials, assisting the teacher with the preparation and implementation of classroom activities, and effective management of student behavior. Build positive relationships with students and families to ensure successful PACT times (Parent and Child Together) Maintain a well-organized, DCF-compliant, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of young children.
Volunteer Involvement Welcome and encourage volunteer involvement in the classroom. Maintain high visibility and a hands-on presence with students, staff, volunteers, and parents who are participating in the program.
Assessment Assist in the preparation of classroom assessments in a timely manner. Support the completion of all required Grace Place evaluations and checkpoints throughout the academic year. Communicate developmental or social/emotional concerns to the teacher to support interventions or referrals.
Bi-lingual, preferred (English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole). Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures and populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite use of the internet, and basic computer skills sufficient to maintain program records and budgets, and communicate with parents, volunteers, partners, and community. Strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills. Commitment to the mission and core values of Grace Place. Current first aid and CPR certificates (can be obtained within 90 days of employment). Able to pass background checks and FDLE fingerprinting.
