• About the HCS Bible Program: The Bible elective program in Hamilton County Schools helps middle and high school students gain a broad appreciation of the Bible as a significant work of literature and an influential text in the formation of western civilization.
• The academic study of the Bible provides students with a broader awareness of ancient cultures and allows them to better understand biblical allusions in various works of literature, art, and music.
• Additionally, utilizing the Bible as the textbook, students engage with the many historical events recorded in the Bible, as well as the diverse social customs of the ancient world.
• Through studying the Bible, students gain an increased understanding of the Bible’s influence on culture, customs, and world history, while also learning to critically engage with this rich literary work without bias for or against any religious group or denomination.
• It is envisioned that students will develop an increased appreciation of the Bible with a more in-depth understanding of the text’s historical, sociological, and literary merit relative to both ancient culture and their contemporary world.

Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning - Deeply understand the Tennessee state standards and establish clear learning targets for every lesson. Build rigorous and aligned assessments and consistently implementinstructional best practices. Follow Hamilton County Schools’ instructional framework, including: Ensuring Equity in Actions Setting High Expectations Building a Productive Classroom Culture Responsive Teaching and Learning Classroom Culture: Build a safe and productive classroom culture. Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning to unfold. Student and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset. Family & Community: Consistently develop strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children. Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning. Professional Responsibilities: Actively participates in professional learning communities (PLCs) with colleagues in order to improve teaching and student learning. Reflect on instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
