OVERVIEW DeSales University, in Center Valley, PA, is a private, coeducational, four-year liberal arts Salesian, Catholic university, under the leadership of the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales. Founded in 1965, the 550-acre suburban campus is located 50 miles north of Philadelphia and about 90 miles southwest of New York City. A total enrollment of nearly 3,500 includes undergraduate day and evening students, and graduate students. Position Summary
The Academic Success Center ADST Academic Coach and BUSA Tutor provides support for students enrolled in the Adult Studies day courses and online/evening program. They assist adult studies day, evening, and online students who request support in study skills through one-on-one and small group sessions, offering strategies for enhanced study skills across the curriculum as well as in individual courses. The position requires individual tutorial sessions to facilitate deeper academic cognition-through-content skills. The coach may also address the unique challenges of non-native/multilingual students who must read and study academic texts in English. The position also requires the ability to address a wide range of other learning needs in addition to study skills, supporting students in the areas of exam preparation skills, test-taking skills, and time management as needed. The ADST Academic Coach and BUSA Tutor also provides support for students enrolled in business courses (AB, MG, MK) as required by the DeSales University Undergraduate Course Catalog.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Business, or another related field preferred
- ESL background a plus
- Minimum of one year of professional experience in academic support services at the secondary or college level
- Superior written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Teaching experience preferred
- Able to provide evening, weekend, and Summer/Winter session hours of availability
- Dedicated to the mission of a small, Catholic, liberal arts institution
