About the role

The Medical Professional is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the camp community, including monitoring health conditions and managing medical records. Key duties include dispensing medication, maintaining the infirmary, and coordinating with the camp physician and parents.

We are hiring for a Summer Day Camp Medical Professional at Day Camp at Wells Ave for the 2026 Summer season! Please review the job description below for job qualifications and specifications and apply here if you are interested in joining us as a member of our team for this upcoming summer.

Each week campers have a blast with full days of traditional camp games, sports, arts and crafts, swim lessons, hiking, free swim, nature walks, exploration, and camp-wide fun! All activities are run by trained counselors who model the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Position summary

The Medical Professional is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the camp community through sound health promotion and practices, while complying with the Department of Public Health Regulations.

Essential functions

1. Monitor the health conditions of campers and staff.

2. Review all camper and staff medical histories.

3. Responsible for proper daily records and reports regarding all camp incidents and accidents in daily medical log.

4. Monitor health medical records, inform staff of significant findings.

5. Responsible for dispensation of medicine as prescribed by physician.

6. Prepare first aid kits for groups.

7. Communicate with Camp Physician on call.

8. Communicate with parents regarding children’s health conditions and medications when appropriate.

9. Follow camp standing orders for medical needs.

10. Maintain and communicate emergency phone number list to staff.

11. Present general medical information to staff at orientation.

12. Order all necessary first aid supplies, in consultation with the camp director.

13. Maintain a clean and a well-stocked infirmary.

14. Aware of camp emergency procedures and prepared to act if warranted.

15. Actively participate in staff training, meetings, etc.

16. Help with all camp activities and participate as a member of the camp staff team.

17. Assist with camper pick-up and drop off.

18. Demonstrate/teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff.

19. Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers.

20. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the public at all times.

21. Able to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities visually and audibly.

22. Submit all required paperwork on time.

23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. 1st aid and CPR certified as a professional rescuer.

2. Prior experience as a medical responder.

3. Prior experience working in a camp/ childcare setting.

4. Must be 18 years of age or older.

5. High School education or above.

6. Successfully passed the Massachusetts mandated CORI and SORI check.

7. Sound judgment, integrity, problem solving skills and risk management.

8. Human relation skills with public and staff.

9. Strong understanding of characteristics and issues of all age groups.

10. Ability to multitask.

11. Physical assessment skills with children ages 5 – 15 years old.

12. Certified in CPR and First Aid and AED.

13. Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.

14. Willingness to go above and beyond the written job description.

15. Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization. Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed.

16. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Physical Demands

1. Hear noises and work in fast paced environment that requires patience, focus and diligence.

2. Meet strength and lifting requirements of 25lbs.

3. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years old with a high school education and professional certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED. Prior experience as a medical responder and working in a childcare or camp setting is required.
