Job description

The YMCA of Greater Erie is looking to hire a part-time Swim Team Coach for our program at the County YMCA. Are you creative, energetic, and fun-loving? Do you love the water, working with children and watching them learn? If so, please read on! This position pays $10.39 - $15.59/hour.

A day in the life of a part-Time coach swim team

Under the direction of the head swim coach, serves as a motivational figure who assists in organizing the swim team program to help build team cohesiveness and instruct swim participants. Assist the head coach with instructing students in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach. Assesses swimmer's skills, monitors participants during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students. Assists with strategy to conduct a successful swim meet. Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the "safe-in-six" model; complete related reports as required. Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators. Assist the head coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season for annual awards banquet. Also, must assist head coach at parent orientation and registration. Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. Perform similar and related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of competitive Safety Training for Swim Some experience of coaching swimming Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Current YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross certification Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen within 60 days of hire New Employee Orientation- YUSA, Mandated Reporter, and child abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date Strong organizational Strong verbal communication Are you a people person who especially enjoys working as a team? PART-TIME WORK SCHEDULE This typical schedule for this childcare position is 8-14 hours per week, Monday - Thursday evening practices and some Saturdays for swim meets.
