  • POSITION OVERVIEW The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and physical growth in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Report to the school secretary upon arrival at the school building.
  • Review all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
  • Maintain established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned.
  • Teach the lesson(s) outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher’s Folder as prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Consult as appropriate with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the substitute Teacher’s Folder.
  • The Substitute Teacher assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.
  • Report in writing on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Ensure that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
  • Encourage students to uphold our values and model mature behavior and good character in the classroom, on the school campus, and throughout their lives.
  • The Substitute Teacher is an active role requiring light lifting, sitting, standing, moving throughout the campus and traveling to other campuses as required.
  • Participating in events outside of normal hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS Bachelor’s degree.
  • Substitute teaching certification issued from the state position is located.
  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS Teaching and/or substitute teaching experience.
