- SUMMARY The Family Support Specialist assists in building strong, supportive relationships with families by identifying needs and coordinating services and resources.
- This role provides direct support to families throughout the intake evaluation, service navigation process, and through in-home services needed.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Make initial contact with new referrals on the Autism Home Visitation wait list Conduct home visits with families as required by to provide support, assessments, service coordination, and resource guidance Collaborate with Autism Home Visitation team members to support families.
- Attend and actively participate in monthly Autism Clinic team meetings Develop and maintain database of family recommendations and assist families in accessing community resources Create and distribute family resources packets Assist families with applying for Alabama Department of Mental Health (DMH) Autism Services Provide services to eligible families through DMH-Autism Services Program, including services delivered in the home and community settings Assist with Autism Clinic as needed.
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance according to scheduled work hours
Language skills
- Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with families, public agencies and service providers.
- Mathematical
- SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

- RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in a social services field. Experience working with autism spectrum disorder. Prior experience as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a plus, but not mandatory.

Valid Alabama driver's license Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of children and their families.
