Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Dental Assistant 1, School of Dental Medicine [R0151767] ROLE of the POSITION This position is an entry level position and individuals selected for this position will acquire the skills and experience needed to perform the various duties through on the job training when needed. This position performs various duties based on the clinical area they are hired to work in. This position checks in patients for their dental appointment, collects and inputs patient information into the electronic patient record. Schedules, confirms and when necessary cancels dental appointments for patients. Confirms patient eligibility for dental treatment. Processes patient cash, check or credit card payment. Assist students in reviewing patients dental record for completion of treatment and resolution of financial obligations. In collaboration with attending dental student confirms co-payments and ensures the patient is aware of the proper amount to collect. Ensures all dental cassettes and instruments are processed through sterilization. Ensures all dental cassettes are complete and in good condition for next use. Ensures all kits are wrapped and labeled with type of cassette, sterilizer number and the date the cassette was sterilized. Ensures all handpieces are maintained according to manufacturer’s instructions. Ensures all cassettes are properly sterilized and stored according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration Sterilization guidelines. Uses proper infection control procedures while transporting instruments to sterilization. Dispense dental materials and instruments to dental students using the dental tracking system. Applicants who are recent graduates of a dental assisting program may perform the following duties under close supervision; provide dental assistance to dental students and faculty within the School of Dental Medicine clinical programs. Assist in all areas of dental treatment including diagnostics, preventive, restorative dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, and prosthodontics.. Ability to provide basic dental assistance in areas of dental treatment including diagnostics, preventive and restorative dentistry. Works Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of general work and/or volunteer experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. (See Special Requirements) Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
