Position
Summary: Ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s learning, well-being, and development in cooperation with their parents and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with the Head Start Performance Standards, USDA, and day care licensing regulations. Based on parent goals, classroom observations and individual child assessments the teacher plans a developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum which meets the needs of all children and their families.
Essential
Functions:
Ensure a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool‑age children
Plan and implement curriculum aligned with Head Start Performance Standards and child development best practices
Individualize instruction based on observations, assessments, and family goals
Conduct developmental screenings, assessments, and maintain child portfolios and documentation
Promote children’s cognitive, language, social‑emotional, and physical development
Communicate regularly and respectfully with families about child progress and classroom activities
Support family engagement through conferences, home visits, and classroom involvement opportunities
Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to classroom staff and volunteers
Collaborate with education, health, mental health, and disabilities staff to support children’s needs
Maintain accurate records, program documentation, and compliance requirements
Promote healthy practices related to nutrition, safety, and overall wellness
Model positive guidance strategies and responsive teaching practices
Maintain confidentiality of child and family information
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program planning activities
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
Perform other related duties as assigned Education and Experience
