Job description

  • HUB is Hamlin’s afterschool care program.
  • HUB stands for “Hang out, Unwind, Belong” – it’s also a fitting name because HUB is the center of activities in Hamlin's Extended Day Programs.
  • Our Extended Day team works daily to make each student feel welcomed, nourished, and engaged during their time with us.
  • We provide a mix of structured and unstructured activities, and students can choose to move between playing outside with their friends, getting their homework done, participating in an art activity, or relaxing with a book or a game.
  • HUB sees anywhere from 60-100 students per day, and is usually busy, lively, and energetic!
  • Ideal candidate has energy to match that of our students and programs.

The Extended Day Staff Reports to: Director of Extended Day and Enrichment Programs

Primary Responsibility

Supervise students’ indoor and outdoor play with joy and enthusiasm. Promote and facilitate compliance with Hamlin health and safety guidelines.

Work Schedule

  • 2:30pm-5:30pm
  • Mondays,
  • Tuesdays,
  • Thursdays 1:30pm-5:30pm Wednesdays (staff meeting day) and Fridays (early dismissal day) Ideal candidate can work some full days for school break camps (including November 23rd-24th and March 25th-26th).
  • Optional additional hours available: substitute teaching during the school day as well as working special events.

  • Facilitate and supervise student activities in indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • Assist in preparing facilities, snack, and supplies for daily programs, as well as breaking down facilities for the next school day.
  • Work proactively with students and assist them with their individual needs.
  • Assist with daily student dismissals and pickups.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
  • Communicate with and support other Extended Day staff, rotating positions indoors and outdoors, including occasional support of our Homework Room.
  • Assist in supporting special events as needed.
  • Meet periodically with supervisor for evaluation and feedback.
  • Work collaboratively to create program themes and concepts.
  • Plan with and support the Extended Day team as needed.
  • Be an advocate for the goals of the after school program and the school.
  • Model and promote the Hamlin Creed: Compassion, Courage, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility.
  • Create an environment of balance: structured and unstructured choices, work and play.

Qualifications

Working towards or possesses a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Passion for and prior experience working with children. Desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Enthusiasm, creativity, warmth, patience, and flexibility. Effective verbal and written communication skills with staff, students, and parents. Ability to problem-solve and resolve conflicts. Reliability and commitment to a consistent weekly schedule; demonstrated ability to arrive prepared and on time.
