- Shift: AnyThe Ocean County YMCA is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and knowledgeable Assistant Swim Coaches to support our competitive swim program. We welcome applicants ranging from both experienced and emerging coaches to former competitive swimmers who are passionate about athlete development. Assistant Coaches work directly with swimmers of all levels, helping them improve technique, build confidence, and grow within a positive, team-focused environment. Under the direction of the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches play an important role in athlete development, team culture, and daily program success. Previous coaching experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with a competitive swimming background, leadership ability, and willingness to grow as a coach are encouraged to apply.
- Essential
- Functions: Provide on-deck coaching, instruction, and supervision during practices and meets. Teach proper stroke technique, training habits, and competitive swimming skills. Support swimmer development, accountability, and confidence. Promote a positive team culture built on YMCA values. Communicate professionally with swimmers, families, and staff. Assist with meet-day coaching, warm-ups, and athlete supervision. Maintain swimmer safety and uphold all YMCA, Safe Sport, and USA Swimming standards. Track attendance, manage equipment, and support daily team operations. Qualifications Must be available to work weekday afternoon/evening practices, weekend meets, and seasonal summer morning practices. Willing to attend local and occasional out-of-town meets. At least 18 years old. Competitive swimming background (YMCA, club, high school, or college). Strong knowledge of competitive swimming fundamentals Professionalism, reliability, and leadership skills. Ability to work well with athletes, families, and staff. Successful completion of required certifications and background check.
Preferred
Previous swim coaching, teaching, or youth leadership experience. YMCA or USA Swimming experience.
