Job description
Amazing Downtown Summer Camp is looking for aquatic leaders who prioritize safety and skill-building. As a Swim Instructor, you are doing more than teaching strokes; you are building confidence and providing a life-saving skill. This role is an excellent addition to a professional resume, demonstrating expertise in risk management, instructional design, patient mentorship, and high-stakes environment oversight.
Swim Instructors are the guardians of the pool and the mentors of progress. You bring the energy to the water every day, ensuring that swim lessons are the highlight of a camper's experience. Working as part of a specialized team, you will facilitate engaging, level-appropriate lessons while maintaining a vigilant eye on safety and fostering positive relationships with every child.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a
- Mentor: Act as a positive role model for campers and the general staff.
- Master the
- Water: Facilitate engaging, high-quality swimming lessons for children of various skill levels throughout the summer.
- Track
- Growth: Complete swim progress reports for each camper to document their skill development and achievements.
- Collaborative
- Safety: Work alongside group counselors, effectively utilizing their support to manage camper behavior and transitions during swim time.
- Afternoon
- Support: Transition from the pool to assist with general camp activities in the afternoon, ensuring campers remain engaged and supervised.
- Event
- Production: Assist with the planning and implementation of camp-wide special events and spirit days.
- Bring the
- Energy: Maintain a high-fun, encouraging, and safe atmosphere at the pool every single day.
Qualifications
Age: 17+ years of age.
Certifications
Current Lifeguarding certification is required (ask us about renewal assistance if your certs are expired).
Experience
Previous experience teaching swim or working in an aquatic setting is highly preferred.
Commitment
- Must be available for the full season (June 29 –
- August 21) and required staff orientation

- AM-5:00 PM (plus one virtual half-day TBD).
Reliability
Consistent Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). Punctuality is critical for pool safety and rotations.
Compensation & Contract Details
- We value transparency regarding our seasonal employment structure. Camp staff are hired on a contractual basis for the eight-week summer season. As a seasonal contractual role, compensation is structured as a fixed sum rather than an hourly wage. This total is distributed via four bi-weekly payments.
