Help build confidence, safety & lifelong skills
The YMCA of the Black Hills is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and community-minded Swim Instructors to join our Aquatics team. In this role, you'll help children and participants of all ages develop swimming skills, water safety awareness, and confidence in the water - all while creating a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment.
Whether you have previous teaching experience or simply enjoy working with people and have strong swimming skills, we encourage you to apply.
- Position responsibilities
- Lead swim lessons in accordance with YMCA aquatic safety standards and program guidelines
- Teach swimming techniques and water safety skills to participants of varying ages and abilities
- Create a positive, patient, and engaging learning environment
- Maintain active supervision and prioritize participant safety at all times
- Build positive relationships with swimmers, parents, members, and fellow staff
- Complete attendance, progress reports, and incident documentation accurately
- Assist with maintaining pool cleanliness, equipment organization, and aquatic safety standards
- Perform routine pool testing and communicate concerns to Aquatics leadership
- Support a welcoming and inclusive YMCA environment for all participants
Qualifications
- Comfortable working in and around water
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude and ability to work with children and families
- Reliable, attentive, and safety-focused
- Previous swim instruction, coaching, or aquatic experience preferred but not required
- Ability to follow YMCA policies, procedures, and training standards
