Help build confidence, safety & lifelong skills

The YMCA of the Black Hills is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and community-minded Swim Instructors to join our Aquatics team. In this role, you'll help children and participants of all ages develop swimming skills, water safety awareness, and confidence in the water - all while creating a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment.

Whether you have previous teaching experience or simply enjoy working with people and have strong swimming skills, we encourage you to apply.

  • Position responsibilities
  • Lead swim lessons in accordance with YMCA aquatic safety standards and program guidelines
  • Teach swimming techniques and water safety skills to participants of varying ages and abilities
  • Create a positive, patient, and engaging learning environment
  • Maintain active supervision and prioritize participant safety at all times
  • Build positive relationships with swimmers, parents, members, and fellow staff
  • Complete attendance, progress reports, and incident documentation accurately
  • Assist with maintaining pool cleanliness, equipment organization, and aquatic safety standards
  • Perform routine pool testing and communicate concerns to Aquatics leadership
  • Support a welcoming and inclusive YMCA environment for all participants

Qualifications

  • Comfortable working in and around water
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to work with children and families
  • Reliable, attentive, and safety-focused
  • Previous swim instruction, coaching, or aquatic experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to follow YMCA policies, procedures, and training standards
