- Summary: Under the direction of the Director of School Operations, the Personal Care Aide provides support to students with disabilities and general education students to ensure their health, safety, and full participation in school programs and activities. The aide assists students with daily living activities and personal care needs, including toileting, diapering, feeding, hygiene, and mobility support, while helping maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. In addition to personal care responsibilities, the Personal Care Aide supports basic student health services and general school aide duties that contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the campus. Health-related responsibilities may include assisting with health office organization, monitoring students who report illness or minor injuries, maintaining basic health documentation, and assisting with general first aid under established school procedures. The Personal Care Aide may also support general campus supervision duties such as assisting with student transitions, recess, lunch supervision, and arrival and dismissal monitoring. The position emphasizes maintaining student dignity, privacy, and well-being while supporting access to classroom instruction, health services, and school activities. What You Will Do Student Support and Supervision Assist students with disabilities and general education students in safely participating in classroom routines and school activities. Provide support during transitions between classrooms, school locations, and programs. Monitor and supervise students in classrooms, playgrounds, cafeterias, hallways, and other school environments. Assist in implementing behavior support and safety plans as directed by administration or designated staff. Support students who require supervision due to medical, developmental, or mobility needs. Personal Care Assistance Assist students with daily living activities, including toileting, changing diapers, hygiene, and changing of clothing as necessary. Assist with feeding, positioning, and mobility support when required. Assist students with limited mobility by supporting or safely transporting them between locations on campus. Maintain sanitary and safe procedures while providing personal care assistance. Ensure student dignity, privacy, and respect during all personal care activities. Support students in developing independence in daily living skills when appropriate. Health and Medical Support Provide general first aid assistance to students experiencing minor injuries or illness in accordance with school health procedures Take and record student temperatures and assist with basic health monitoring as directed Support the administration of student medications as authorized and directed by the school nurse or physician orders Assist with monitoring students with diabetes, including observing symptoms related to blood sugar levels and supporting their medical care plan Assist with administration of insulin or other diabetes-related care in accordance with physician orders and approved student health care plans Monitor and support students with diabetes by observing food intake, hydration, and health indicators as required by their medical care plan Supervise students who require observation due to illness, injury, or health conditions until appropriate staff or guardians arrive Maintain organized health supplies and assist with maintaining a clean and safe health support area . Collaboration and Communication Work cooperatively with teachers, specialists, administrators, the school nurse, and other staff to support student health and well-being Implement directions provided by certificated staff regarding health support, behavior management, and student safety Communicate observations related to student health, behavior, mobility, and personal care needs Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive student medical or personal information Assist in documenting health observations, incidents, or student needs as directed by supervising staff Medical Delegation Compliance Perform health-related services only when properly trained and when such services are delegated by a credentialed school nurse or authorized medical professional in accordance with California law Follow individualized student health care plans, physician orders, and school health protocols when providing medical support services Participate in required health and safety training related to medication administration, diabetes care, first aid, and emergency procedures Our Ideal Teammate Deeply mission-driven and believe Accelerated can and will meet audacious goals. Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent (required) Current First Aid and CPR certification required or obtained upon hire Training in safe lifting, positioning, and hygiene procedures may be required Ability to read/write/speak in Spanish (preferred) Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred Ability to support students with personal care needs in a respectful and professional manner Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with certificated staff Effective communication and interpersonal skills Physical Requirements: Ability to assist students with with disabilities (approx. 50-75lbs, as well as positioning them in wheelchairs, mobility, positioning, and transfers) Ability to bend, kneel, lift, and support students as necessary Ability to assist students with toileting, diapering, and hygiene needs when assigned Ability to lift or assist with lifting students in accordance with safety procedures Working Conditions: Work is performed in classroom and school environments supporting students with diverse physical, developmental, and behavioral needs Duties may include exposure to bodily fluids while providing personal care; appropriate protective equipment and training will be provided Compensation and Benefits: Salary Rate: $24.22 / Hourly Medical, Dental, Life, and Vision Coverage Work Schedule: Monday - Friday | Full-time 10 Month Classified Hourly work calendar | 180 Work Days To Apply: Please visit www.edjoin.org to complete the application.
