About the role

The teacher will plan and deliver engaging ELA instruction for grades 5 and 6 aligned with Maryland State Standards. They are responsible for creating a student-centered learning environment that supports academic, social, and spiritual growth within a Catholic framework.

St. John Regional Catholic School, located in Frederick, MD is seeking a highly skilled individual to serve as a Middle School ELA Teacher for Grades 5 and 6. We provide a Catholic education through excellent academic and extracurricular programs that promote leadership, achievement, and service within the Church and community. The teacher will create a positive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports the academic, social, and spiritual growth of all students.

Essential Functions

Uphold all Archdiocese of Baltimore (AOB) and school policies, procedures, and expectations while maintaining high professional and Catholic standards.

Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned with AOB and Maryland State Standards, using a variety of techniques to motivate and challenge students.

Create a positive, organized, student-centered classroom environment that supports academic, social, and spiritual growth.

Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and integrate G Suite for Education and other digital tools to support a 21st-century learning environment.

Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records; communicate consistently with parents, students, and administration.

Implement PBIS strategies and ensure the active supervision and safety of students at all times, including assigned duties before, during, and after school.

Support the Catholic identity of the school through participation in liturgies, prayer, faith-based activities, and the integration of Catholic values across the curriculum.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues, staff, and administration; participate in faculty meetings, committees, professional development, and in-service learning.

Attend required school events such as Back-to-School Night, Open House, and Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Prepare and submit lesson plans with clear objectives; maintain an engaging and organized classroom environment.

Assist with school-wide initiatives and responsibilities as assigned by administration.

Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and staff while modeling the values and ideals of the Catholic Church.

Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

MSDE teacher certification in Education or willingness to obtain certification.

Knowledge of curriculum, as well as principles and practices of pedagogy.

Classroom teaching experience preferred.

Proficiency in using a variety of technology tools to enhance daily instruction and differentiate learning.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a state and federal fingerprint background check, VIRTUS training, and all required employment documentation.

Commitment to supporting and upholding Catholic moral and social teachings and the mission of SJRCS (practicing Catholic preferred).

Demonstrated ability to operate with a growth mindset and seek opportunities for feedback.
