About the role

Provide active instructional support to teachers by leading small groups and assisting students individually in a Pre-K classroom. Manage classroom routines and supervise students during non-instructional times such as recess and lunch.

St. John Regional Catholic School, located in Frederick, MD is seeking candidates for a full-time Pre-K Instructional Assistant for the 2026–2027 school year and beyond. The Instructional Assistant will provide active support to teachers in a classroom setting. Responsibilities may include grading assignments, preparing classroom materials, leading small groups, and providing one-on-one assistance to students who need additional support.

Essential Functions

The following list outlines the major responsibilities of the Assistant. As this list is not exhaustive, the Assistant may be asked to perform additional duties assigned by administrators during regularly scheduled hours. Assistants are expected to follow their job descriptions and adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook, Family Handbook, and other official communications

Instructional support

Collaborate with educators during instructional time to enhance student learning.

Foster a secure and structured classroom environment conducive to learning.

Implement daily classroom routines to support effective instruction.

Work directly with students individually, in small groups, or in whole-group settings to reinforce lessons.

Attend and assist in specials classes (Pre-K 3 through Grade 3).

Guide students through assignments to ensure understanding and completion.

Supervise students during non-classroom times, including but not limited to recess, lunch, transitions, hallways, assemblies, Mass, and dismissal

Professional responsibilities

Maintain up-to-date professional credentials and stay informed about educational best practices.

Adhere to all institutional policies and guidelines.

Communicate effectively with school leadership and faculty while maintaining discretion and confidentiality.

Administrative duties

Assist with attendance and other clerical tasks to support classroom operations, including managing attendance records and lunch counts.

Support student supervision throughout the school day to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.

Prepare and organize instructional materials for classroom use.

Perform additional tasks as requested by administrators or teachers.

Position Qualifications

Minimum of a high school diploma and a 90-hour childcare certification.

Experience in a Catholic school setting preferred.

Appreciation for young students and their families.

Must be an active, practicing Catholic.

Pay Rate

$19.00, Hourly
