Responsibilities
This position is responsible for functions in a support position working with Deaf/hard-of-hearing students. Consult and collaborate with School staff and families in regards to students’ educational deficits Conduct initial screenings as well as comprehensive evaluations Participate in the IEP process in developing present levels of performance, goals and objectives, and treatment recommendations for students qualifying for Special Education services Provide Special Education sessions through the use of current best practices based on prescribed services in the IEP Maintain all documentation required by the district including, but not limited to, notes, monthly summaries, and annual IEP’s
Qualifications
Testing and Certification: An Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, or an equivalent skill assessment. National Certification: Holding a valid certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), such as the NIC (National Interpreter Certification) GaPSC Clearance: Must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Clearance Certificate.
Education
A bachelor’s degree or beyond in Deaf Education or related field preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge of, and ability to assist in instructing various subjects. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). Familiarity with assistive technology and communication devices commonly used in DHH education.
- Work
- Experience: Two years of experience interpreting for the deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in an educational setting, is desired.
