Functions

  • Essential Job Functions Plans and teaches small group instruction in the classroom under the direction of the classroom teacher. Collaborates with teacher in weekly lesson planning. Assists teacher with differentiating instruction. Assists teachers with the management of student behavior. Assists students in following classroom routines, working on-task, and completing assignments with increasing independence. Clarifies, rephrases and repeats instructions for students as needed. Collaborates with school staff in behavioral support. Assists in the development of individual, classroom-wide and/or school-wide positive behavioral supports to students. Assists students with conflict resolution. Provides structured supervision on the yard during recess, lunch, before school, and after school. Other Functions Performs other duties as assignedQualificationsMINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE Education AA Degree or Bachelor’s degree, or at least 48 successfully earned semester units of college course work from an accredited college/university (must include 9 hours of coursework in Reading/Writing and 6 in Math). Certifications Must pass criminal background check Must provide proof negative TB test results Must complete CPR/First Aide certification and Child Abuse training within 30 days of employment SKILLS Possession of patience, flexibility and the ability to work well as a collaborative team member. Physical ability to bend over, squat, stand and sit for periods of time, and move with some speed. Reliable transportation to work. Prior experience working with children in an educational or other structured setting. Skills needed to model appropriate behaviors to students. Ability to remain calm during periods of stress. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage time. Ability to work collaboratively with school staff. Ability to accept constructive criticism and direction from supervisors. Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff. Mobility to traverse all areas of work sites.
