$14.88-$18.01 Position Type: Full Time Position Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt Pay Frequency: Monthly Location: Arkansas City Main Campus – Arkansas City, KS Department: Business Services Reports To: Wellness Manager Job Summary: The Fitness Trainer is responsible for providing fitness guidance and instruction to help individuals improve their physical condition. The fitness trainer will create tailored fitness and wellness plans for individuals and groups by assigning exercise routines based on individual physical needs. Position Duties: Assess the physical and health conditions of members to create appropriate exercise plans and monitor their improvement. Educate and explain applicable safety rules and regulations (i.e., use of equipment). Modify exercise plans based on needs, potential injuries, or health issues. Conduct individual and group fitness training sessions Oversee the use of fitness equipment to ensure individuals exercise properly and safely by demonstrating proper equipment use. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, assisting with inventory and equipment selection, and providing a supportive, safe, and welcoming environment for members. Assist with daily fitness center operations, including member check-in and payment processing. Educate members on health and nutrition topics. Assist with training and reinforcement of work-study expectations and procedures. Serve as a member of the Cowley Thrive committee and assist the Wellness Manager with Thrive initiatives and activities. Champion wellness activities for all employees and students through presentations, activities, education/training, counseling, etc. Participate in community enrichment and wellness outreach activities as assigned. Maintain courteous, professional, and effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and/or any other representatives of external organizations. Comply with all College policies and procedures Assist the Wellness Manager by performing other related duties as assigned. Required Education and Skills: Associate’s degree required. Personal Trainer Certification required. Previous work experience as a fitness trainer or similar role Knowledge of diverse exercises and how to adjust plans according to client needs. Ability to instruct and motivate people. Certification in CPR. Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and diverse populations. Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement. Supervisory Requirements: None Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally must aid or assist participants. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout. Work Environment: Work performed in an exercise facility, classrooms, and an office environment. Will perform duties around campus and throughout the community.
