- Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the health aide is responsible for providing medical assistance including scheduled and emergency medication administration, technical medical procedures and first aid care to chronically or acutely ill and injured students.
- This position will also maintain and compile student health records, files and database and health-related reports.
Responsibilities
Provide health and first aid care to sick and injured students. Duties include determining the severity of the illness/injury, providing appropriate interventions for chronic and acute conditions, consulting with the school registered nurse, and communicating with parents, as needed. Practice Standard Precautions and appropriate disposal methods to prevent the exposure of self and others to blood and bodily fluids that can cause diseases. Perform technical procedures as necessary and delegated by the school Registered Nurse. (e.g., diabetes management skills, g-tube feedings, urinary catheterization, etc.). Practice proper body mechanics while assisting students in and out of wheelchairs for positioning, diaper changing and toileting. Other duties include completing Student Accident Reports, reporting Child Abuse concerns, calling 911 if necessary, and monitoring chronically ill students. Prepare and maintain student health files, documents, and reports. Maintain all student immunization files and ensure all students have an age or grade appropriate Certificate of Immunization. Track students who are non compliant with immunizations and prepare student letters to be approved by a supervising Registered Nurse. Document care, communications, and treatments related to each student in the student's electronic health file as directed by Health Services documentation guidelines. Administer medications and perform medical procedures, as delegated. Document per Health Services guidelines, consult supervising Registered Nurse, notify parents/caregivers when medications are running low and ensure paperwork is properly maintained for each student. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER: Medication administration CPR and First Aid Preferred experience with K-12 aged students and/or pediatric populations, work experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA), previous use of student information systems and/or electronic medical records EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate's degree preferred As a high school counselor at Vanguard Classical School, you will join a dynamic team of educators dedicated to fostering academic excellence and personal growth in every student.
