About the Role

The primary role of a Social Studies teacher is responsible for helping students learn about history, geography, politics, economics, and culture. Integrating current events into lessons and also facilitating healthy debates and engaging classroom discussions.

About the Opportunity

● Ability to bring social studies lessons to life with real-world applications ● Ability to adjusts social studies lesson plans based on students’ assessment evaluations ● Creative skills to keep students engaged in lessons ● Planning and implementing class lessons that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards. ● Strong knowledge of Tier ! Curriculum ● Upholding the mission and values of Community Academies of New Orleans in all student and family interactions to ensure our commitment is promoting academic excellence and success. ● Planning and coordinating programs with the faculty and administration. ● Providing ongoing student evaluation through regularly scheduled grade reporting and parent conferences. ● Establishing and building great rapport with students to provide a great and exciting learning environment. ● Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff. ● Actively participate in strategic long- and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students. ● Prepare students adequately for all required assessments. ● Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management. ● Remain current on ongoing developments and requirements from the Louisiana Department of Education relative to school accountability, assessment, and curriculum.

Qualifications

● Commitment to providing and outstanding education for the children of New Orleans ● Willing and able to carry out the mission and model the values of Community Academies of New Orleans ● Bachelor’s degree (required) ● Master’s degree (preferred) ● Two or more years of Social Studies teaching experience (preferred) ● Louisiana State Certification (preferred) ● Strong classroom management skills ● Strong verbal and written communication skills ● Willingness to participate in professional development and instructional best practices Physical Demands ● Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday. ● Able to occasionally move about inside the office and school building to meetings and other assigned duties ● Occasionally ascend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
