Job Description

The Child Development Lab (CDL) within the Sanford School at ASU-Tempe is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill its Child Development Intern position. Under the guidance of the Child Development Associate or Assistant Professional, this role involves assisting with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate early education curriculum activities. You will be working in an environment that serves as a full day child care and preschool classroom with children between the ages of two and five years.

During absence of Associate or Assistant Professional assumes additional duties as assigned by Child Development Manager. Models and implements appropriate interactions for student workers and volunteers. Assists & supports specific elements of training for student staff and volunteers. Conducts self in a professional manner by modeling appropriate language, behavior, and presence in accordance with established procedures, practices, and standards of the Intern Teacher Manual for timeliness and readiness to interact with children and complete assigned tasks. Practices interactions with children that are developmentally, culturally and individually appropriate by demonstrating respect for individual and cultural differences in children, families and staff. Practices positive guidance techniques to assist children in developing self-regulation. Develops and maintains positive communication with children, families and staff. Assist in the implementation of age appropriate corrective measures/discipline as needed for management of classroom environment. Under the guidance of Associate or Assistant Professional, communicates with parents daily and meets with parents at least twice a year. Assists in the maintenance of a healthy and safe classroom environment (indoors and outdoors); actively participates in monthly fire drills to ensure ongoing familiarity with emergency procedures. May be required to perform general housekeeping tasks such as laundry, snack preparation, toy washing, general cleaning and organizing environment.
