Position Summary
The Year-Round Tutor is responsible for providing academic support and individualized instruction to students participating in the Ukrainian Refugee School Support Program. Tutoring may be provided individually or in small groups, either online or in person, and may include English language support as well as assistance in other academic subjects. The tutor will help students strengthen academic skills, improve confidence, and support successful integration into the educational environment.
Position Description
The Year-Round Tutor will work under the Ukrainian Refugee School Impact Grant initiative and provide educational support tailored to the individual needs of students. Tutors are responsible for creating a positive, encouraging, and structured learning environment while supporting students’ academic growth, language development, and overall educational success.
Tutoring may include English language learning, homework assistance, test preparation, reading and writing support, and subject-specific instruction in areas such as math, science, social studies, or other academic subjects based on student needs.
Required Qualifications (must be met at time of hire)
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in education, child development, language instruction, or related field preferred
- Be at least 18 years old
- Experience working with children or youth in educational, tutoring, mentoring, or community settings preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage tutoring sessions effectively
- Valid Ohio driver’s license and EAD preferred for in-person tutoring
- Must successfully complete background check
General Expectations
- Work cooperatively with program staff, families, schools, and community partners
- Maintain accurate attendance records, tutoring logs, and progress notes and invoice
- Ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students
- Follow all USCRI policies, procedures, and child protection guidelines
- Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities
- Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, and punctuality at all times
- Adapt tutoring approaches to meet students’ academic levels and learning styles
Essential Duties
- Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions online or in person
- Support students in English language development and/or academic subjects
- Assist students with homework, school assignments, reading, writing, and study skills
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials appropriate to student needs
- Monitor student progress and communicate concerns or achievements with program staff
- Encourage student engagement, confidence, and positive learning habits
- Support culturally responsive and inclusive educational practices
- Maintain consistent communication with families and program leadership as needed
- Assist with academic enrichment activities and educational workshops when requested
