Job Description: And position requirements

The Pennsylvania State University, Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), University Park has openings for two part-time Clinical Service Provider positions beginning August 10, 2026. Hours worked are 16 to 24 hours per week during the academic year only and are fully in-person.

Responsibilities

include providing short-term individual therapy, phone triage, and urgent assessment/stabilization/follow-up. Supervision is provided for a successful applicant who wants to accrue supervised hours toward licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Candidates should have the ability to provide services to a wide range of students. All clinicians on our staff perform their duties while adhering to and promoting trauma-informed care and healing-centered approaches and principles, in alignment with the establishment of the Commonwealth of PA as a trauma-informed, healing centered state.

A minimum of a master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related discipline is required. Licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Clinical Social Worker, Professional Counselor, or Psychologist is required. Current licensure as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychologist is preferred.

State College, PA, a university town, with a population of 105,000 (which includes the State College borough and surrounding townships) was recently cited as one of the top university towns in the United States. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are 3 to 4 hours from State College and Baltimore is about 3 hours. State College and the university provide the major intellectual, cultural, and recreational resources for central Pennsylvania.

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
