Job description

Description The Baby Fold has been successfully wrapping services around children and families since 1902, offering life-critical support such as foster care, special education, early childhood programming, and post-adoption support. Basic function

  • The Foster Care Nurse assesses, coordinates, and implements medical and psychiatric services as appropriate for children in The Baby Fold’s specialized foster care program. Demonstrates an ability to apply trauma-informed principles and integrates them into daily practice. Communicates effectively and promotes collaborative problem solving by demonstrating care and respect in considering the diverse experiences and perspectives of others.
  • PAY: $27 - $37/hour
  • HOURS: 10-15 hours per week, flexible self-scheduling around the client's availability.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 1) Medical Intervention and Supervision

  • Coordinates psychiatric care and services between the consulting child psychiatrist, other medical providers as needed, and specialized foster care clients. Coordinates monthly - in-person visits with TBF’s consulting child psychiatrist. Monitors height, weight, and blood pressure records for specialized foster care clients. Works with specialized foster care case managers to ensure that all ordered lab work, doctor’s orders, and other medical tests are completed, current, and documented within the case files for specialized foster care clients. Prepares, submits, tracks, and maintains consents for medications with DCFS, foster parents, caseworkers, consulting psychiatrist, community psychiatric providers, and Illinois Department of Public Aid (IDPA). Consults with foster families and case managers regarding any issues getting prescriptions filled by pharmacies. - Provides psychotropic medication education to staff, foster parents, biological parents, and others as identified. Provides medical case management to children within the Specialized Foster Care program that are deemed medically complex. 2)

  • Keeping: Initiates and maintains all records related to medical issues for clients in the specialized foster care program.

3) Coordination of Medical Information

Coordinates medical information between nurses, consulting psychiatrists, treatment teams, and other medical or health care professionals within Specialized Foster Care.

Requirements

1. A Registered Nurse pursuant to The Illinois Nurse Practice Act. 2. Bachelor’s degree in nursing. 3. Certified CPR Training recommended, or willing to obtain certification within 60 days of hire. 4. Previous experience required; psychiatric or behavioral health experience and experience with children and adolescents strongly preferred. 5. Physical ability to maintain the safety and wellbeing of children for whom there is a responsibility, including the ability to implement The Baby Fold’s approved physical crisis intervention procedures as needed. 6. Valid Illinois driver’s license that has not been revoked or suspended in the past three years required; ability to use one’s personal car for agency business preferred.
