Position Summary

The Employment Specialist plays a crucial role in transforming the lives of adults with developmental disabilities by providing essential training and support on their journey to successful employment. This dynamic role involves directly addressing barriers to employment, developing vital job search skills, and delivering personalized services such as situational assessments, job exploration, vocational assessments, and personal and social adjustment support. This position collaborates closely with the Associate Director of Job Development to guide participant job seekers through the employment planning and job search process, and equip them with the skills to navigate their way to work safely. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Employment Specialist plays a crucial role in transforming the lives of adults with developmental disabilities by providing essential training and support on their journey to successful employment. This dynamic role involves directly addressing barriers to employment, developing vital job search skills, and delivering personalized services such as situational assessments, job exploration, vocational assessments, and personal and social adjustment support. This position collaborates closely with the Associate Director of Job Development to guide participant job seekers through the employment planning and job search process, and equip them with the skills to navigate their way to work safely. QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A minimum of one year’s experience as a job coach, employment specialist or in a similar role is required. Experience working with employment goals and in workforce development desired, but not required. Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred. Strong administrative, communication and computer skills required, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) and Salesforce. Experience in professional settings is preferred. Valid California Driver’s license, clean motor vehicle report, and acceptance as a covered driver by The Arc’s auto insurance company. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Repetitive keyboard use; phone use, walking, standing, bending stooping and direct client interaction. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
