Job description
Description The IT Specialist provides hands-on technical support to ensure The Faison Center’s information systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with organizational goals and mission. This position supports day-to-day IT operations, including infrastructure maintenance, data management, cybersecurity practices, systems support, and end-user assistance. The IT Specialist collaborates with departmental staff and leadership to support technology solutions that drive operational efficiency, enhance reporting capabilities, and support Faison’s educational, clinical, and administrative programs.
- Technology Support and Operations Support departmental staff by identifying and implementing technology solutions that enhance program delivery, operational efficiency, and data-informed decision-making.
- Assist in evaluating and deploying secure, efficient, and cost-effective technology solutions.
- Follow and help maintain IT policies, standards, and procedures that promote system reliability, security, and compliance.
- Provide technical support and assistance to staff across program delivery, administrative operations, and decision-making workflows.
- Systems and Infrastructure Management Support the configuration, performance, and security of IT systems, servers, and networks.
- Assist with the virtual server environment including provisioning, maintenance, and optimization.
- Maintain the organization’s data storage environment, ensuring data availability, integrity, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Support system integration projects and help ensure applications communicate effectively to support organization-wide reporting.
- Ensure high availability, proactive monitoring, and effective incident response across all IT systems.
- Security and Compliance Implement cybersecurity strategies and access controls to protect sensitive data (FERPA, HIPAA, and other privacy regulations).
- Participate in vulnerability assessments, threat monitoring, and incident response activities.
- Maintain disaster recovery and data backup systems, ensuring regular testing and documentation.
- Team Collaboration and Professional Development Collaborate with IT team members, sharing knowledge and supporting cross-training and professional growth.
- Provide advanced technical support and escalation assistance to resolve complex issues.
- Meet performance expectations and contribute to a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Compile and maintain accurate system documentation, policies, and training resources.
- Database, Software Subscription, and Application Oversight Support the administration and integration of organizational databases to ensure data integrity, reliability, and seamless communication across systems such as Paylocity, student information/client management platforms, and donor and financial software.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of internal applications and reporting tools that enhance data accessibility and operational efficiency.
- Support oversight practices for software products and subscriptions utilized by program, finance, fundraising, and human resources teams.
- Collaboration and Communication Partner with departments to identify technology-driven process improvements.
- Assist Finance and Administration with IT budgets, vendor contracts, and cost control as needed.
- Communicate complex technical topics in accessible, solution-oriented language tailored to non-technical audiences.
- Provide technical input to supervisors and staff on IT issues and emerging technology opportunities.
Requirements
Education and Experience Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent work experience. 2–4 years of IT experience in a support, systems, or operations role. Experience with virtualized environments, network infrastructure, and data systems. Experience in nonprofit, educational, or healthcare settings preferred. Strong knowledge of network design, database management, cybersecurity, and systems administration. Ability to balance independent technical work with collaborative team support. Strong communication, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
