Academic Assistant/Tutor 1 The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Duties and Responsibilities
Provide academic assistance to students in specific subjects corresponding to COD curricula and serve as a resource to other academic assistants and peer tutors. Face-to-face or online tutoring may occur one-on-one, in small or large groups, or a class. Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Provide course-based academic assistance to students in courses where tutor has subject-matter proficiency.
- Provide tutoring in person and online, one-on-one, and in group session formats.
- Maintain current and relevant knowledge in subject areas and general study skills, such as note taking, test preparation, test taking, time management, etc.
- Serve as a resource to other academic assistants and peer tutors.
- Conduct workshops, class visits, and Strategic Success sessions for students as requested by the supervisor.
- Keep current on resources in order to compile or make recommendations for same.
- Perform electronic and paper record-keeping tasks to include recording visit notes and timekeeping tasks.
Qualifications
Education Associate's degree and/or COD CTE certificate required. COD degree preferred. Experience Experience tutoring or providing academic assistance to college or high school level students required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in spoken and written English required. Experience with online interactive technology (i.e. Zoom) preferred. Working Conditions: Up to 25 hrs. per week during academic terms (approximately 40 weeks per year). Occasional hours between terms, evening or weekend hours may be required. Up-to-date skills in relevant technologies. This position is subject to a background check and education verification at the expense of the College.
