Description Louisiana Key Academy is a mission-driven, tuition-free public charter school specializing in evidence-based instruction for students with dyslexia. We operate in a structured, high-accountability environment where teachers receive ongoing coaching, training, and support to help them succeed and make a meaningful difference for students.
The Guest Teacher (Substitute Teacher) is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction in the regular classroom teacher's absence. Guest Teachers ensure a safe, structured, and productive learning environment while implementing lesson plans and upholding Louisiana Key Academy’s expectations for student behavior, engagement, and academic focus. This role requires strong classroom management, professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to quickly build rapport with students and staff.
Schedule
Monday–Friday (schedule aligns to local school district calendar). Assignments may vary based on campus needs.
Who You Are (Core Competencies) Coachable and responsive to feedback, with the ability to implement changes quickly Strong classroom manager who maintains structure, consistency, and high expectations Collaborative team member who contributes to planning and problem-solving Student-centered, with the ability to build strong relationships Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities Open to learning and implementing evidence-based dyslexia instruction Roles & Performance Expectations Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher Deliver instruction and facilitate learning activities as directed Maintain instructional pacing aligned with classroom expectations Provide basic academic support and guidance to students Maintain a structured, consistent classroom environment Enforce school-wide behavior expectations and routines Document and communicate any significant student behavior or instructional concerns Follow all school procedures and operational expectations Participate in training or onboarding related to instructional practices, as needed Student Support & Compliance Responsibilities Implement instructional accommodations (not write IEPs) and supports aligned to IEPs, 504 Plans, and intervention plans. Collaborate with SPED staff, interventionists, and leadership to support student needs Maintain confidentiality of all student information Follow all student safety protocols and mandatory reporting requirements Maintain accurate documentation when required for student support or incidents
Requirements
