- SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, as leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Assistant Infant Teacher provides direct supervision to a group of children in the Enrichment Program. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. The Assistant Infant Teacher is responsive to the individual needs of each child in their care.
- Successful candidates will demonstrate the following: experience working with young children, familiarity with the State of Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines, Creative Curriculum, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards, current CPR/First Aid certification, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the field of early care and education.

- FUNCTIONS: Supports Lead Teacher and works as a team to ensure the safety and well-being of all infants in the classroom while supervising them at all times. Provides a learning environment that is tailored to the developmental needs and interests of infants, which includes activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development Communicate using positive and encouraging language with children, frequently throughout the day, and interacting with them in a variety of ways, including through play, storytelling, and routines. Implement behavior management strategies that are consistent with the program's philosophy, focusing on positive reinforcement, redirection, and supporting children's emotional development. Ensure all mealtime activities are safe, supportive, and engaging, providing assistance to children as needed, and creating a positive dining environment. Recognize and responding to the individual needs and learning styles of each child, including their cultural backgrounds and family values.
- QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: MRTQ level 4 preferred. Previous experience working with children, preferably in a childcare setting. At least 18 years of age. State of Maine childcare provider background check CPR, first aid, AED certifications, and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
