  • SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for conducting safe, effective, and enjoyable exercise classes by providing leadership, up-to-date quality instruction and high energy motivation. The Group Exercise Instructor will work with people of all ages, and lead group fitness classes to motivate members to improve their overall health and wellbeing. As an instructor, you are passionate about health and wellness and enjoy empowering people to achieve their goals. You are energetic, self-motivated and a natural teacher dedicated to helping others.   • FUNCTIONS: Plans and instructs fitness and/or related classes, following YMCA standards and guidelines. Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems. Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required. Maintain current certifications. Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness. Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents. Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates members to commit to long term participation. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures. Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA. Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate. Any additional duties as assigned.

  • DEMANDS: This position is required to be performed on the YMCA premises. Regular interaction with members and staff. Supervision received from the Wellness Director. May also take direction from senior staff.

The employee may be required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. Must be physically fit to lead a class at the appropriate level. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Minimum age of 18 years. Current Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain prior to beginning employment). Rock Steady Boxing Coach Certification is required. The Landing YMCA will provide training and certification for the selected candidate. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate, encourage, and safely adapt activities for participants with varying abilities. Experience in group fitness, personal training, healthcare, rehabilitation, or working with older adults is preferred, but not required Experience Experience in group fitness, personal training, healthcare, rehabilitation, coaching, or working with older adults is preferred, but not required. Experience leading groups, teaching, coaching, or facilitating wellness activities is a plus. A passion for helping others improve their health, confidence, and quality of life through movement and exercise.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma, a national Group Fitness Instruction Certification, and at least 25 hours of practical teaching experience. CPR and First Aid certifications are required within the first six months of employment.
