The instructor shadows and assists with the instruction and motivation of students in swimming classes. They are responsible for building relationships with parents and students while maintaining program records.

Now Hiring Swim Instructors at the YMCA YMCA Employee Benefits FREE Family Membership & Discounted Access to Programs Flexible Scheduling Family-friendly Work Environment Employee Assistance Program & Retirement Plan General Function The Detroit SWIMS Swim Instructor shadows and assists with instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications At minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age) CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen from Red Cross Obtains YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent at first certification course offered by YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit after hire.

Duties & Responsibilities

Shadows and prepares swimming lessons according the YMCA guidelines Builds authentic relationships with students and parents Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules as appropriate Maintains records as required and attends staff meetings and trainings Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor Abilities & Skills Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques. Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 16 years old with some high school education and hold CPR, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications. They must also obtain YMCA Swim Instructor certification after hire.
