Job description

The Youth Development Professional supports the supervision, engagement, and safety of children participating in before and after school care programs. This role helps create a positive, inclusive, and enriching environment through recreational activities, homework support, and social-emotional development opportunities.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children during program hours.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and leading age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, sports, and educational projects.
  • Support students with homework and academic enrichment activities.
  • Maintain positive behavior management practices and encourage respectful interactions among participants.
  • Assist with attendance tracking, snack distribution, and program setup and cleanup.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, and school staff as needed.
  • Follow all program policies, safety procedures, and child supervision guidelines.
  • Report incidents, concerns, or behavioral issues to the Program Director or Site Coordinator.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, recreation, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, or recreational setting preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of children and families.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of required background checks.
  • Physical requirements
  • Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and participate in recreational activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
