Job description

The WSYMCA is seeking a Junior Swim Coach to join our team at Church St! We are hiring for up to 20 hours a week! Starting pay at $15.00 per hour.

Essential functions

Assist coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared practices and workouts accordingly.

Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.

Conveys information on the swim team, aquatics programs and schedules.

Attends practices and swim meets as required.

Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.

Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, swim meet reports, etc.).

Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

Organizes and puts away needed swim team equipment. Reports damaged equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum age of 15.

Certifications

CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.

Knowledge of the competitive strokes and techniques, competitive swimming and general water safety.

Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization. Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed.

USA Swim Coach certifications preferred.

Current Lifeguard Training Certification or Safety Training for Swim Coaches preferred.

Reliable and enthusiastic.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Abuse risk management

Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.

Attend required abuse risk management training.

Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.

Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Physical Demands

Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.

Ability to lift equipment.
