Summary of Position Functions

Provides engaging instruction, administers tests, and evaluates student progress, understanding, and proficiency in assigned field of Career and Technical Training.

Major

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides students with industry-recognized instruction and training.
  • Develops and prepares lessons; recommends curricula changes and supplemental materials.
  • Administers and corrects tests; logs and maintains progress and attendance.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Manages the classroom by moving about the room to tutor, coach, evaluate, and assist each student as the need arises.
  • Motivates and counsels’ students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems, or study habits.
  • Evaluates and supervises students in an on-the-job training experience.
  • Participates in providing hands-on activities for students in the career preparation program.

Skills/Competencies

  • Practical experience in administrative and clinical settings
  • Experience in teaching, or mentoring students
  • Familiarity with current healthcare office practices, compliance, and technology used in medical administration
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional strategies, classroom management and content field
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent customer service skills
  • High energy level and ability to engage with students
  • Ability to quicky learn Job Corps methodologies and strategies
  • Ability to use different methods and mediums in delivering course materials
  • Ability to effectively respond to student issues as they arise
  • Must be proficient in the use of common computer software such as Microsoft Suite, Outlook, etc.

Educational Requirements & Experience

  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D
  • NYS Certification as a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant through the National Health Career Association (NHA)
  • 1-Year Supervised Work Experience, in a Medical Administrative Assist Role within the last 3-Years, or 2-Years of Supervised Work Experience within the last 5-Years.
  • Instructors must have completed a recognized Medical Administrative Assistant Training Program which typically includes; Medical Terminology Knowledge, Core Curriculum in Health Science, Exam Prep, and Workplace Readiness Instruction.
  • Must maintain certification through continuing education including; industry standards, best practices, and regulatory updates every two-years
  • Must possess a valid and clean driving record
