About the role

The substitute teacher is responsible for implementing instructional programs and lesson plans in the absence of the certified teacher. They must maintain a productive classroom environment and manage student grades, assignments, and attendance.

Teachers First is seeking a Building Substitute Teacher for The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw!

The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw (GATA) is opening in Fall 2026 and is seeking innovative, passionate educators who want to help build something different from the ground up.

GATA is designed to be a highly engaging school where academics, technology, creativity, competition, and real-world learning come together through gamified systems, hands-on experiences, and strong relationships to prepare students for the future.

Positions are being filled on a rolling basis.

Qualifications

1. Must have minimum 60 college credit hours. 2. If the assignment is in a core discipline area, must have a corresponding major on the transcript. 3. Bachelor of Education preferred. 4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. NATURE OF THE POSITION: To implement the instructional program, in the absence of the certified teacher, to ensure that all students meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards. Achieving excellence requires that the substitute teacher works collaboratively and communicates effectively with fellow teachers, students, parents, and co-workers. RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION: Meeting and instructing assigned classes facilitating effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the Academy. Implementing through instruction and action the teachers' lesson plans. Establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conductive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies. Maintain students' grades, assignments, and attendance. Attending staff meetings, and training as applicable. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory criminal background check.

Requirements

Candidates must have at least 60 college credit hours and a satisfactory criminal background check. A Bachelor of Education is preferred, and core discipline assignments require a corresponding major on the transcript.
