  • SUMMARY: Special Education Teacher (bilingual strongly preferred) develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows state-mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor Degree in Special Education.

License: Cross-Categorical Special Education

Responsibilities

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and is able to accommodate/modify materials to meet the needs of students. Be able to collaborate well with staff to plan and implement lessons and materials based on student needs. Knowledge and skills in working with children identified within the various categories defined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004. (OHI, SLD, SLI, Autism, etc.) Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities. Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public. Discuss students’ progress with parents, other teachers, counselors, and administrators. Ability to interpret IEP’s/MSA’s and understand the required needs as stated within them. Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one. Assess students’ skills and determine their educational needs. Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program. Willingness to be person-centered with working with staff and students. Knowledge of and willingness to use relevant technology, Google suites, blended learning platforms, and ability to use technology such as iPads to individualize instruction. Meet professional teacher education requirements of school district and state. Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis. Must have knowledge and experience with cultural sensitivity and awareness. Ability to be flexible, resilient, and adaptable to changing priorities, with a willingness to put students first at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.
