Job Description

The College of Education at Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a one-year temporary position as an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education to teach mathematics and/or social studies methods classes.

Responsibilities

will include teaching in-person at the undergraduate level, engaging in service within the elementary program, the Teacher Education department and the College of Education, completing accreditation assessments, and collaborating with other faculty to ensure consistency amongst sections of coursework.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Master of Arts in Teaching, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field; or ABD without a master’s degree
  • Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience in grades PK-6 classrooms
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community and our partner K-12 schools
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching elementary mathematics and/or social studies methods courses
  • Knowledge of Michigan standards for PK-6 teacher preparation
  • Experience using Canvas as an online learning management system
  • Capacity to provide service to the program, department, and college
  • Experience with designing curriculum focused on elementary teacher education
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have certification and/or experience designing curriculum, teaching undergraduate coursework, or supervising fieldwork focused on elementary education. Additional preferences include content expertise in mathematics and/or social studies and the ability to integrate DEI into the curriculum.

Working environment & employment conditions

Applicants must be available during the day for on-campus teaching and able to attend program meetings and monthly department meetings.

Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.

Requirements

Candidates must have a Master's degree in Teaching or a related field (or be ABD) and at least three years of PK-6 classroom experience. Preference is given to those with certification, experience in undergraduate teaching, and expertise in DEI integration.
